The objective of this paper is to investigate entrepreneurship skill development through the apprenticeship scheme in some selected small scale business in the Southern region of Nigeria. The paper describes entrepreneurship skills development and also analysis the apprenticeship scheme in Southern region of Nigeria. In order to achieve the objectives, a well-structured sampling technique was employed. A total of number of 112 questionnaires were administrated to the selected small scale business owners in the southern region states which were all properly completed and analyzed using simple percentage. The results obtained revealed that there is low level of education among the majority of the selected small scale businesses in the Southern region of Nigeria. And majority acquired their skills through the apprenticeship. The sources of apprenticeship recruitment are mainly friends and associates. The paper therefore recommends that attention there is need for regular seminars, conferences and workshops for the owners of the small scale business among the Igbo community in order for the region to experience rapid and sustainable economic transformation desired....
What processes do entrepreneurs use for leading themselves during the challenging times of building and growing a business? This article presents an assessment tool called DSLK that measures entrepreneursââ?¬â?¢ use of self- and superleadership. The questionnaire measures the four foci of selfââ?¬â??leadership (1) constructive thoughts; (2) natural rewards; (3) effective behaviors; and (4) Vitality and the super-leadership foci (1) coaching and communicative support and (2) facilitation of personal autonomy and responsibility. Reliability coefficients for the long and a short version of the DSLK are described. Implications for entrepreneurial assessment and training of self-leadership and super-leadership are discussed....
Recently, U.S. firms are switching CEO at the fastest pace and these events often cause severe stock market volatility on the uncertainty of the firm�s future performance. This study investigates whether inverse market reaction on CEO succession will induce earnings management of new CEOs in order to protect their reputational and career prospects. From a sample of 2,418 firm-years during the post-SOX period of 2003 to 2012 by applying the regression analysis, we investigate two associations of real earnings management (REM) with CEO successions and with its market reaction respectively. Our results suggest new CEOs are more careful when manipulate earnings through REM activities. However, REM is negatively associated with market expectations on CEO successions, implying new CEOs may utilize REM to reverse the first bad impressions held by investors. We provide a new perspective with regard to market reactions to CEO successions, by examining how and why new CEOs may choose to manipulate earnings....
Franchise business contributes 10% of the world�s gross domestic product (GDP) and 14% of the world�s retail\nsales, thus, making it an influential form of retailing for the past years. Its growth is attributed to an increasing\nrate of satisfied franchisees. This study will investigate the level of control mechanisms of the franchisor and the\nlevel of satisfaction of the franchisee in Davao City. The paper used a descriptive survey method. Results of the\nstudy revealed a direct relationship between the overall level of franchisee satisfaction and the level of control\nmechanisms. It showed that the level of outcome control, behavior control and social control are very satisfied. The\nlevel of satisfaction of franchisee with regards to control mechanisms of their franchisors is also very satisfied. If\nthe franchisor increases its control mechanisms to their franchisee, the franchisees satisfaction also increases. This\nstudy does not answer issues regarding an employee-manager satisfaction (employed by the franchisee to manage\nthe endeavor). This study gives new knowledge to franchisee whether controlling or letting loose their franchisee\nwould benefit the franchise endeavor....
Conflict is inevitable in every field of life because each individual is different from other one. Conflict management is essential in order to avoid its negative impact on performance of organization. This study aims at focusing on different styles for managing conflict which executives may prefer for resolving conflict. Disagreement and arguments are dimensions of conflict while conflict management styles are Avoiding, Competing, Collaborating, Accommodating and Compromising. This paper covers all of these conflict handling styles for managing conflict. Employees working as Assistant Managers in National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) from all over Pakistan were randomly selected for collection of data through questionnaires and collected data was analyzed through descriptive statistics. Findings reveal that assistant managers prefer to use collaborating style followed by accommodating, compromising, avoiding and competing respectively for managing conflict. Not a long time that entrepreneurship training has found its place in Iran. Hence, not many researches have been performed on efficiency and damages facing entrepreneurship training. Present study tries to review damages facing entrepreneurship training from viewpoint of entrepreneurship professors and teachers. Semi-structured interviews have been used to collect data, and content analysis has been used to analyze data.
